SMILE TRANSFORMATION

When I was 12, I got braces for 2 years which at the time were super cool to have, just sayin'. Train-tracks were definitely in. Towards the end though, I was dying to get them off my teeth and when I ~finally~ did, after being told 3 previous times that "next time will be the last visit", I was really disappointed that my front teeth didn't look the way I expected them to.

Turns out, my teeth were perfectly straight at this point, but the front teeth on the top were just shaped a certain way which didn't allow them to line up properly with each other. They were slightly curved at the edges, so natural gaps were present which I hated and I thought there was nothing I could do about it - until now. 😁

So that's a lie. I've known about composite bonding for a couple of years but I wasn't sure if it was right for me. I went into Chatham Street Dental Care about a month ago, and going in I was kiiind of half-expecting to be offered veneers as a solution, but Dr. Laura Sullivan met me and explained that I actually have very good teeth (no cavities or damage, HURRAY) so veneers weren't necessary. She suggested the composite bonding which is what I was hoping for and explained that veneers would be a better option for people with broken teeth and damage, etc.

The difference between composite bonding and veneers is:
composite bonding adds onto the tooth you already have (which sort of re-shapes it and can lengthen or widen the tooth). Veneers requires the natural teeth to be filed down, and porcelain (or other) teeth are placed over the natural teeth. Veneers are irreversible, as it removes part of your own teeth.

So yeah, I wanted to keep my own teeth and just add onto them to fill out the gaps in between them. Laura did a mock bonding in the consultation to give me an idea of what the composite bonding would look like, and I was sold. It was one of those "TAKE MY MONEY" sort of moments. She was incredibly nice and completely understood why I wanted this done as I was afraid I would be judged on having such a minor issue with my teeth. A problem is a problem, especially when it's on your FACE. 😛
In order to have the bonding done, I had to undergo cleaning with the lovely hygienist Anna Rose, and home-whitening for 4 weeks to get my teeth up to scratch beforehand. I actually didn't have yellowy teeth - they were A1 shade (or something like that) which is actually quite a bright natural shade, but I wanted to go whiter. Obvs.

So this is what my teeth looked like before the consultation.

This is what they looked like during the whitening process.
The shade of my teeth have not been digitally edited whatsoever.

This is what they look like now, after composite bonding.

Safe to say, I'm delighted with them! The procedure took about an hour, and was barely even uncomfortable, let alone painful. Seriously - I was chilled out the whole time. I had 4 teeth bonded. The centre top two were shaped so that they fit together - closing the gap between them, and the two either side of those were lengthened to even out the teeth line. I have actually never been so happy about my teeth in my life - and now I can actually SMILE instead of looking like a Posh Spice saddo in all my pics.

I realize there is a lot of pictures of my mouth. Sorry.

I'd definitely recommend this option for anyone who has teeth they'd like to alter slightly, and I'd definitely recommend doing it with Chatham Street Dental Care.
